Lady Eagles run into a tough Panther team in home loss

The Eagle Grove varsity softball team opened their season, and home schedule, with one of the toughest Top of Iowa opponents they could have drawn in Central Springs. The Panthers went to state last year, and return an all-state pitcher in Hannah Ausenhus who held the purple and gold to only four hits in a 10-0 loss to the Panthers in five innings last week.

“We maybe had some first game jitters, but it was still a better outcome than last year,” stated head coach Jim McLaughlin.

Kenzie Crail had two of those hits as singles, with Hannah Beecher doubling and Cali Schultz also stroking a single. Lea Friedl reached on a walk and then advanced to second, only to be left there. Hannah took the loss, but only walked four batters and struck out two.
