Lady Eagles play well in scoring runs, defeat L. Mills

The Lady Eagle softball team is beginning to put it together in having a good past week, scoring runs in bunches and picking up a win to show for their hard work at the plate.

In an exciting back and forth home game last Tuesday, visiting Nashua-Plainfield held on for a 13-8 win but it wasn’t easy. It was 5-1 N-P after three complete innings, only to see the home team cross with four runs to tie it up. Back came the Huskies, taking an 11-5 lead after five complete frames. The Eagles rallied to get three of them back, but ran out of time.

Hannah Beecher went 2 for 3 and scored two runs. Kenzie Crail blasted a triple, with Maura Beecher and Sabrina Flumerfelt pounding out a double each, in their only connections. Maura and Jozey Gump drove in two runs each and Flumerfelt one. Cali Schultz and Marisa Beecher also had a single each. Laine Morgan, Crail, Schultz, Marisa, Maura and Lea Friedl all scored a run each. Hannah showed her speed on the base paths by making three steals, with Morgan picking off two bags. Morgan drew two walks, with Maura and Hannah getting one apiece.

Hannah took the loss in the circle, allowing six earned runs with three walks and six K’s.

Coach's Comments that couldn't make it into the printed paper: “We are finally hitting the ball like we can, and are getting contributions from all nine spots in our order,” stated head coach Jim McLaughlin. “Our pitchers are doing their job in throwing strikes and keeping us in ball games.”
