Lady Eagles have rough start to season

The Eagle Grove varsity girls basketball team opened their season last Tuesday with a 68-17 road loss at Forest City. The Lady Eagles were still hanging in at just a 20-7 deficit after one quarter, only to see the Indians blow it open with a 19-0 second quarter to go up 39-7 at halftime.

Natalie Vrba and Ari Lyman both netted four points to led the column, with Kenzie Crail popping in a three-pointer and Lea Friedl, Jordan Kastler and Megan Sampson all chipping in two points apiece.

Lyman grabbed eight total rebounds, with seven on the defensive glass. Vrba grabbed seven caroms, with Friedl and Hannah Sampson getting three each. Crail, Megan Sampson and Kaitlin Sampson all had two rebounds each. Friedl used her quickness to get her hands on three steals, with Crail, Vrba and Lyman getting two each and Megan Sampson one.

On Friday night, they hosted West Hancock for their home opener and lost an 83-15 contest. The Eagles from the north used a 51-5 halftime advantage to propel them to victory. Lyman scored five points, with Vrba netting four points and Brittney Osborn canning a three-pointer. Hannah Sampson chipped in two points and Megan Sampson one point.
