Lady Eagles cross country team captures Belmond Invite title

The Lady Eagles team battled approaching weather and competition at the Belmond Invitational last Tuesday evening to come home with a championship. The Eagles finished ahead of St Edmond and West Fork to bring home the team title.

The Eagles were led by Lea Friedl and Megan Schafer who crossed the line in sixth and 10th place, respectively. I really felt the entire team got after it from the start and ran strong races. Lea and Megan fought themselves to the top ten shortly into the race holding their position to the finish.

Graciela Morales was the third finisher for the Eagles just missing out on a top ten finish at 12th. It’s been fun working with Graciela on her running form, building endurance, and watching her learn the sport of cross country. I have to stress to Graciela she doesn’t have to lead the entire race. Last night she was the number one runner through about 400 meters and settled into the top ten for a majority of the race before finishing inside the top 14. Once she learns how to pace and conserve energy early in the race she will be very fun to watch as the season progresses.
