James R. Johnson Trust gives $30,000 towards Veterans Memorial Tower project

In the past six years, a group of very committed citizens have been working diligently to give an old elevator a new purpose - to honor our area’s Veterans. It is also a recognition piece of Eagle Grove’s Governor, Robert D. Blue. A lot has been accomplished, but there are still many great plans in the making for this building - if funding is available.

Thanks to the James R. Johnson Trust, the project just got a big boost to continue moving forward with some of these renovations and repairs. Executors of the Trust, Dick Cahalan and Curtis Hause saw the Veterans Memorial Tower Project as the perfect fi t for how former Eagle Grove resident James R. Johnson intended his money to be spent after he had passed. His goal was for the men, along with Kevin Cahalan (a representative of the Trust) to fi nd worthy causes in the community that made a difference to the quality of life in Eagle Grove, and help them fund their mission.

Daryl Watts, an original founding member of the Veterans Memorial Tower Project was beyond grateful for the $30,000 donation, noting it would be a huge help to continue the work being done.
