Iowa Secretary of Ag Mike Naig visits sites in Wright County

Last Thursday, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig stopped by Wright County to tour various agricultural points of interest in the area. This was part of Naig’s goal to visit all 99 of Iowa’s counties.

Secretary Naig’s first stop was at Prairie Energy Electric Cooperative just outside of Clarion. After lunch was served, Prairie Energy CEO Tim Marienau and Business Manager Todd Foss thanked everyone for coming, especially Secretary Naig and the Prestage family. Everyone was invited to look around at the utility trucks and the facility.

In the afternoon, the group planned to tour Prestage Farms of Iowa, the new pork processing plant under construction near Eagle Grove. Ron Prestage, president of the company, along with his father and two brothers were on hand to lead the tour. Prestage praised the people and businesses his family has worked with in the planning and building stages. He said, “We’re proud to be in Iowa, and we’re tickled with the reception and help we’ve got in Wright County.” He also recognized Secretary Naig’s role in facilitating this project. Prestage noted, “We especially appreciate Mike’s help and support.”
