Interns work to connect people with locally grown food

It’s 6 p.m., dinner time. As your family gathers at the table, do you know where your food came from? Three interns with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Region 7 (Humboldt, Webster, Hamilton, and Wright Counties) spent their summer trying to convey that exact message, educating people about utilizing locally grown food. They’re focus was on local Farmers’ Markets, Food Pantries, farmers, and meat processors to mention a few.

According to Regional Extension Education Director Jerry Chizek, this program has been in Iowa for three years now, but this is the first year that Region 7 decided to partner together and offer the internships. Their goal - to provide the interns with the opportunity to see local food production and promote it’s benefits to the community.
