Gayle Morgan named 2018 Homecoming Grand Marshal

There’s a saying around here - “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.” That statement couldn’t be more true for Gayle (Dooley) Morgan who has been asked to serve as this year’s 2018 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal.

The tie to the Eagle Grove Area School District runs deep for Gayle and her family. She moved to Eagle Grove in 1966 with her mother, father, and some of her siblings after spending six years in Canada so her dad could attend the Seminary. When they came, Gayle was a sophomore who was excited to be back in the States, but admittedly a little nervous about being the new girl in the sophomore class. But Gayle quickly made new friends and was enjoying every minute of her high school experience. In 1968, her senior year, she was even crowned the Eagle Grove High School Homecoming Queen, an honor she was shocked to receive, but very humbled by.

“There’s a lot of family ties to this school for us,” Gayle pointed out proudly. In addition to Gayle being crowned Queen, four years later her brother, Tim, was crowned the very first EGHS Homecoming King. Four years after that, Tim’s future wife and Gayle’s future sister-in-law, Barb (Thompson) Dooley, was crowned the EGHS Homecoming Queen. But it doesn’t stop there.

Gayle married her high school sweetheart, John Morgan. Together they had three sons - Linc (1992), Tate (1994), and Clark (Boone - 2000) who were also all crowned Homecoming Kings of their respective senior classes.
