Gas Leak in Clarion

A crew burying fiber optic cable in the 100 block of 2nd St NW in Clarion struck a gas line at approximately 3:30PM Wednesday afternoon resulting in the evacuation and sheltering in place of nearby residents.

Detours were set-up throughout town including the rerouting of traffic on Hwy 3 through Clarion. MidAmerican Energy crews were on scene to make repairs to the line. The repairs were completed and roadways reopened to traffic at about 2AM Thursday morning.

Agencies responding to the incident included: Clarion Fire Department, Clarion Police Department, Clarion Ambulance Service, Clarion Public Works, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Wright County Emergency Management, Wright County Secondary Roads, Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa DOT.
