Frozen solid

Eagle Grove, and much of Iowa, awoke to a sheet of glass outside their doorways Monday morning, Jan. 16. Meteorologists had been predicting an ice-storm for days...and this time, they were right on the money.

Sunday night, a quick trip to the Dollar Store revealed that people were heeding their warning and stocking up on food, water, and emergency supplies like batteries.

Postings began appearing on social media around 10:15 p.m. Sunday evening, Jan. 15, that the rain was starting to fall. By 5 a.m., those posts turned to conversations about the tretourous ice that had blanketed our area. One individual said they watched outside their window as a vehicle was trying to make a turn and slid into the street drain...and was stuck. Good samaritans were trying to figure out a way to get some traction and push him out. That’s when a city sander came by and dumped some sand to help get the stranded motorist back on course. Now that’s small-town service..
