Friedl, Koester will run this Saturday

They’ve both been there before, and now are going back. After last Thursday’s 2A qualifier at Dike, Lea Friedl and Jon Koester will return to Fort Dodge for yet another crack at a state medal. Friedl, a junior, makes her second straight run at Kennedy Park/Lakeside golf course after grabbing the 15th and final spot at the finish. Her time of 21:10 chopped two seconds off her qualifying time of a year ago at Garner.

Koester, a senior, took seventh to make his third trip overall, which includes going with the team when they qualified in 2016 followed by individually the next year. The meet begins at 11 a.m., with the 4A girls race first to the starting line. The 2A girls take off at 1:00 p.m., with the boys race at 1:30 p.m. The 2A awards will follow at approximately 2:20 p.m. Friedl will start from box 15 and with four other individual runners, while Koester has been assigned to box seven and also with four other runners joining him there.
