Friedl finishes 34th in 2A at state

Under sunny skies a field of 130 2A runners assembled at the start line for the girl’s state cross country meet on Saturday. Lea Friedl walked to box six at the start line with a season of preparation and ready to race against the field of runners.

She raced against Crestwood, Waukon, Aplington- Parkersburg and other strong teams, and individual runners, throughout the season. We were both confident in her preparation to get out and run with the field of competitors. I addressed with her the importance of being patient within the first mile, as adrenaline often throws off a runner at the state meet leaving them gassed going into the last mile. Knowing a large number of the runners in the field, we altered Lea’s training routine for the state meet and the decision paid great dividends. She ran a smart race, allowing her to cross the line in 20:53 and 34th place.
