First Eagle Grove incentive home nearing completion

With Dr. Aaron and Janel Parrott’s new home on Morningside Drive almost ready to move into, they sat down with the Eagle to share some of their thoughts of being one of the first applications for the City’s Commercial/Industrial/ Residential Construction Incentive Program. It offers up to $40,000 in grant money for new housing or other building projects under those categories. Once the application is approved, both by a committee and by the City Council, the project must be completed in accordance with the plans, specs and bid document. Once the applicant’s project is complete, and the general contractor certifies the same in writing, the funds can be released. The City also has the right to inspect the project to confirm compliance and completion.

“We had talked about what we wanted to do, whether we wanted to add on to our current house, update it or build one,” said Aaron when asked about their decision to build new. “We did look at building a new house more seriously because of this program.”

“This kind of pushed the decision out the door,” added Janel. “It made it financially easier.”

The couple chose Don Peart Custom Homes of Fort Dodge as their general contractor for the home in the Maier Addition on the southeast corner of the City. A requirement was to use local contractors, so they chose Jan Derscheid of Inner Dynamics and Torkelson Construction, with the Eagle Grove Greenhouse slated to do the landscaping when spring weather permits.
