Emergency personnel will receive radio training

Moving to the statewide P25 radio system will be a big step up for law enforcement and emergency responders—both in equipment sophistication and effectiveness. But with that step up will come a big learning curve.

At the request of Sheriff Jason Schluttenhofer, Tom Justin, the owner On Target Training and Consulting, presented a price quote to the county board of supervisors on Monday for training on how to use the new radio equipment.

Justin compared the process of switching over to the new P25 system to upgrading from a 1980s-era computer to an iPhone. P25 radios are a top-of-the-line system, and it’s likely that an emergency agency will not be able to use them to their full potential without training.

“The goal is to bring all your end users up to speed on how your system works,” Justin said.
