EGHS Homecoming next week

Homecoming is the first major anticipated event of the school year each fall. This year is now different. After only three days back in class, the high school kids found themselves already voting for the Top 10 King candidates and the Top 10 Queen candidates (photo in last week’s Eagle). On Friday, Aug. 31, the senior class voted for their Top 5 candidates for each and they were announced Friday afternoon just before school let out (their photo is on Page 1 this week). The excitement has officially begun.

There’s plenty of fun to go around for everyone. While many of the events focus around the high school students, there are still opportunities for the elementary and middle school students to get in on the fun, as well as the general public. The fun kicks off with a window decorating contest for the downtown business owners. The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “Once Upon a Homecoming.” This leaves the window of opportunity wide open for owners, managers, and staff members to get creative and adorn their windows with themed school spirit. The Homecoming Top 5 Royal Court will be judging the winners sometime between Sept. 10 and Sept. 14. Prizes will be awarded to the favorite participant. Don’t own a business but own a house? Hey - why not show your school spirit in your windows or front yard as well? There won’t be any prizes, but it will add to the excitement of supporting our athletes and students.

Monday evening, Sept 10 come out for some JV football versus Pocahontas Area. Action starts at 6 p.m. on the high school football field.
