EGHS athlete Chris Lizama invited to Australia: Will participate in Down Under Sports

Chris Lizama, a junior at Eagle Grove High School, has been invited to represent Iowa at the 2019 Down Under Sports track and field competition in Queensland, Australia in July.

Each participant is responsible for their own fundraising to cover the cost of their 10-day tournament package, and it’s an important step in achieving the goal of competing on the international stage.

“I was surprised,” said Lizama on his initial reaction. “I was caught off guard, because I didn’t think I could get invited to something like this let alone even being considered for it.”

He is currently halfway towards his fundraising goal.

“I plan to create a letter that I will hopefully be giving out soon,” said Lizama. “I am willing to do any jobs people might have for me to raise funds for my trip.
