EG Veterans Memorial Tower project moving forward again

In September of 2012, the first phase of the Eagle Grove Veterans Memorial Tower was completed. What once stood as an old, dilapidated elevator on the east side of Fareway had gotten a much-needed face-lift with a new coat of paint, and most importantly, a purpose.

A group of Eagle Grove community members had taken this once rundown eyesore and turned it into a blank canvas for a masterpiece in the making - one that honored our area’s brave men and women who have served as part of the armed forces over the years. The Veterans Memorial Tower, as they began referring to it, also served as a proud recognition of our heritage and the town being the home of Governor Robert D. Blue. Impressive as it was, the project had only just begun, and the committee had many more great plans for the rest of the Tower.

Over the last six years, more has been added to the elevator in phases as funding became available. One of the most eyecatching additions came in September of 2014 when then Eagle Grove High School senior Mike Dicke assembled three military signs and sealed them during shop class. It really added an impressive flair to the project.
