Eastern communications tower site changed

This spring, Wright County approved a contract for installing two new radio towers to facilitate emergency communications. The proposed sites for the towers were the secondary roads shed on the north side of Eagle Grove and the former landfill site halfway between Clarion and Eagle Grove. However, county officials have been considering other sites for the towers.

“I was approached by a landowner for a site on a hard surface road,” between Clarion and Belmond, said Sheriff Jason Schluttenhofer.

The new proposed site is two acres situated three miles straight north of the original proposed location. The Sheriff had confirmed with Motorola that county coverage would be the same with the different tower location. However, the chief advantage would be that the cost of purchasing the site would be equal to the cost of leasing and cleaning up the former site.

“I think it’s a good opportunity to buy it,” Schluttenhofer said.
