Eagles take two of three meets

The Eagle wrestling team hosted Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, North Union and West Hancock last Thursday and came away with two more wins. They got the measure of the Cardinals 44-36 and easily defeated a small Warrior squad 70-12. The Eagles from the north turned the tables on them for a 45-36 victory.

In the dual with the Cardinals, it was led off at 160-pounds with a forfeit by the home team. G-H/V then scored two straight falls, followed by a forfeit for them to build an early 24-0 advantage. Joel Mendoza (220) stopped it with a pin in a mere 36 seconds for their first points. Following another fall for the Cardinals, a string of three straight Eagle wins greatly changed the momentum. Kaden Pritchard (106) scored a fall in :49, Gabe Rolon (113) picked up his win by forfeit and Tomas Rolon (120) pinned his man in 1:13.

It was now 30-24 Cardinals, with Josh Graham next up at 126-pounds. He suffered a pin, followed by Lance Teeselink (132) picking up a 19-2 technical fall win. He made a total of four takedowns and three three-point near falls in the match. Following a forfeit win for Andrew Dencklau (138), Mark Dawson stepped on the mat at 145-pounds and produced a 7-2 win to keep the Eagles in front at 38-36. His Cardinal opponent scored a first period takedown, which Dawson countered later with a reversal to tie their match score. To start the second period, Dawson took the bottom position and earned an escape. A takedown later opened up a lead for the senior. A third period takedown then sealed the deal.
