Eagles pick up second win in week Mason gets double-double

Following a great and inspired effort in Monday night’s win, the Eagles kept the momentum going in taking a 45-36 victory at North Union last Tuesday. Both teams wanted it through the first half, keeping the score constantly close as the first period ended at 12-11 in favor of the Warriors. The Eagles hung tough until they could tie it at 22-22 entering the locker room at halftime.

Chase Mason and Enzo Gebara had great nights offensively, with Chase draining 19 points through the rims and Enzo dropping in 15 points including two treys. Jake Darland and Thomas Matthes both added four points each, and Austin Purcell three points on a long-range bucket, to the total.

Mason enjoyed a double-double in also getting his mitts on 16 rebounds, 11 of those on the defensive end. Matthes was busy on the glass as well in finishing with 10 of his own. Darland was close at eight rebounds, with Gebara getting four and both Francisco Gonzalez and Austin Purcell three each. Ben Olson chipped in one. Darland dished out two assists, with Gebara, Gonzalez, Purcell and Caden Butler all at one each. Matthes also picked off three steals and Gebara one.

“In the six years I have been head coach, we have never won at their gym,” stated Ryan Pedersen. “Nearly every year we match up well with them but just can’t seem to eek out the win. However, this year was different. We went into halftime tied, and I told the boys in the locker room that the first four minutes of the third quarter is going to determine the outcome. It proved to be true. We came out and outscored them by five in the first four minutes. It was a tight game the rest of the way, but we were able to make more shots than they did and hung on for the win. The boys were pumped when they got into the locker room, and I was really proud of the way they fought and got the victory.”
