Eagles get first win of season 47-44 over Cowboys

The Eagle Grove boys varsity basketball team finally tasted victory last Friday night, taking a 47-44 home nail-bitter over Clarion-Goldfield. The Eagles led 26-21 at the break, and extended it to 40-33 to start the fourth quarter.

Three Eagles ended up in double figures, led by Brian Yackle who fired in 15 points including 5 of 7 from the line. Jake Wilde finished with 12 and Jordan Wieth 10, which included a pair of buckets from long range. Dylan Thielan added three points, Josh Morris, Graeham Schope and Maxx Asche all two points apiece and Zach Ploeger one point. Yackle had a double-double by snagging 13 rebounds, with Wilde at seven and Ploeger at five. Schope finished with four, Thielan three, Morris two and both Wieth and Asche one each.

Wilde, Wieth, Morris, Thielan and Ploeger all dished off for two assists each. Morris grabbed four steals, with Wieth and Asche making three each. Wilde, Schope and Yackle all came up with one swipe apiece. Wilde and Yackle both had a blocked shot.

“I thought the kids really battled hard all night long,” said Parrott. “Yackle had an outstanding game, and really battled all night on the boards. Wilde came through with his best game of the season, and I thought Wieth and Asche came off the bench and gave us some great minutes.”
