Eagles defeat North Iowa

The Eagle Grove varsity boys basketball team returned to the win column last Friday in a 58-44 victory over North Iowa. The home team held a narrow 30-28 advantage on the Bison at halftime.

Spencer Espejo tossed in 22 points with two long-range buckets included. Ryan Smith fired in 15 points with a trey. Enzo Gebara was close to doubles, scoring nine points with a trey included. Niko Padilla finished with seven points and John Mosley five points. Padilla grabbed six rebounds, with Gebara, Espejo and Blasi all at five apiece. Smith picked up four, Mosley three and Hill two.

Smith dealt out three assists, with Blasi setting up two and both Espejo and Padilla one each. Espejo had five steals and Smith three, with Gebara, Padilla, Blasi and Mosley all getting one theft each. Gebara and Blasi made a blocked shot each.

“We played a good comeback game,” stated head coach Ryan Pedersen. “We fell behind in the first, but the boys fought back and took control early in the second half. I thought our full-court press energized us and helped us really get after it. Spencer had a great offensive game, and Ryan came off the bench and provided us wit a lot of energy in the second quarter.”
