Eagles continue down tournament trail following 5-0 win over Central Springs

Last Saturday in Garner, the Eagle Grove varsity baseball team won their opening district test 5-0 over Central Springs. The purple and gold jumped out of the gate quickly, plating three scores in their half of the first to set the tone themselves for the rest of the night.

Niko Padilla had the strong bat in this game, ripping a double in his only hit with an RBI and a run scored. Nick Halverson, Saxon Lyman, Spencer Espejo and Brayden Lyman all had a base hit each, with Ryan Smith, S. Lyman and Espejo all credited with an RBI apiece. John Mosley crossed home plate twice, with Halverson and Espejo bringing a run across each. Halverson drew two walks, with Mosley, S. Lyman, Espejo and Thomas Matthes all getting one free pass each.

Saxon pitched a gem of a game on this district night, going the distance in allowing just a threehitter with one walk and nine K’s.

“Saxon commanded all three pitches for strikes,” stated head skipper Jordan Miller.

“When you do that you keep hitters off balance and it really helps in our success. Our defense played really well behind him. Ryan went out and caught some balls in center that really helped us out.”
