Eagles compete in Algona Invitational

The Eagle Grove boys cross country team took part in the 17-team Algona Invitational last Tuesday. The meet was postponed one day due to the rainy weather. Clear Lake took the varsity team title with 64 points, followed in the top three by Humboldt with 75 points and Charles City with 77 points. The Eagles were tied for 10th with 243 points.

“I’m still trying to figure out how this went for us,” stated head coach Ben Demuth. “Take out the Belmond-Klemme meet, and 16 of our 17 runners had their fastest times. Yet, as a team we placed 10th. I’m frustrated that we gave up points with under 100 meters left, one of those to a Forest City kid that he was leading earlier. We just didn’t run with smart strategies. But in breaking down the splits, we still really had a good night.”

Jon Koester led the team with a 17:44.06 for 18th place at the finish line. He was followed by: Spencer Espejo at 38th in 18:25.81; Derek Graham at 52nd in 18:51.24; Jacob Arbaugh at 61st in 19:07.36; Jacob Graham at 79th in 19:32.34; Austin Hill at 94th in 20:24.67 and Brady Beck at 102nd in 21:03.37.
