Eagles blow past Ogden 40-27

After last Friday’s 40-27 win for Eagle Grove at Ogden, coupled with Madrid’s win over Manson NW Webster, the scenario is set for this Friday and the Eagles clear path to the playoffs. A win over South Hamilton puts them in the big dance as the runner-up in 1A, District 6 behind district champ Van Meter, while a loss means the season’s over and the Hawks go as the second place team from the district.

“This was a really hard fought battle, and both teams played with great heart and effort,” stated head coach Paul Hansch. “Ogden has a good young quarterback, and they do a good job of putting a lot of pressure on opposing defenses the full 48 minutes.”

After a scoreless first period, the Eagles drew first blood on a nifty 14-yard touchdown run by Niko Padilla. The PAT was no good. Ogden then scored with 7:32 left in the half on a TD pass. It didn’t take long for the purple and gold to respond, as Brayden Lyman hooked up with Ryan Smith on the next drive for a pretty 80-yard touchdown pass. Padilla caught the conversion pass, and it was 14-7. Ogden scored with 4:01 remaining, with the PAT making it 15-14. With 1:47 left until halftime, Padilla scored his second touchdown on a 25-yard catch from Lyman. A try for two points failed, and the teams entered the locker rooms after a back and forth first half with the Eagles up 20-15.
