Eagle volleyball team trying hard to find winning formula

It was a rough week for the Eagle Grove varsity volleyball team in that they only managed to win one set in two dual matches plus a Saturday tournament, but at the same time a week that saw them play well, and in some cases, better than the final score indicated. Those things are important too, and don’t always show up on the stat sheet.

On Tuesday night at home, they lost to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in three straight by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23. Team serving was at just over 87 percent, with Esme Figueroa making 16 of 17 with an ace serve included. Maci Pickering made good on 11 of 12, Dani Koester 8 of 9 with an ace and Hannah Quintus 7 of 8. Mallory Hammitt made 6 of 7 with two aces, Jarika Eisentrager 4 of 5 and Allison Purcell 2 of 3 with an ace.

Figueroa set the ball for 11 assists in the primary spot and Quintus eight assists in a secondary role. The total of 22 kills was headed by Leslie Cooper and Koester as each made five successful spikes for points. Eisentrager put three kills on her final stat line, with Hammitt, Hallie Jeske and Purcell all making two kills each. Figueroa, Quintus and Desi Shivers all added one apiece.
