Eagle track & field team competes at two meets last week

Last Tuesday in Webster City, the Eagle Grove boys track & field team took part in the Lynx Relays. Humboldt easily took the team title with 168 points, followed by: Webster City 133, Pocahontas Area 92, St. Edmond 76, Iowa Falls-Alden 57, Clear Lake 49 and Eagle Grove with 14 points.

The highest finishes for the the night went to Dallas Hammitt in the discus (just over 120’ for fifth) along with the sprint medley, shuttle hurdle and distance medley relay events that all took fifth as well.

“It was a decent night for us, but we were competing against several teams that are ahead of us in talent,” stated head coach Ben Demuth. “I thought we hung in with them very well. We were able to beat our seed times in every relay except the 4x4, or otherwise, we placed ahead of our time and another team. That is what I asked the guys to do, to just go out and compete to the best of their ability. I was pleased with our sprint med team as they dropped considerable time with some new runners in different legs of the event. We were able to break last year’s school record. I would like to see this unit gel as I think they could be a pretty good relay for us by the time we get to the end of our season.”
