Eagle track & field hosts Umstead Relays - Take seventh in their class

Even though the morning saw a blanket of wet snow covering the ground, it was gone by the afternoon and the annual running of the Umstead Relays went off last Tuesday night without a hitch. Humboldt won class A, followed by Webster City and Algona. Central Springs easily took the class B title with 151.33 points, followed in order by: Lake Mills 125, St. Edmond 73, West Hancock 62, Belmond-Klemme 56, Manson NW Webster 55.33, Eagle Grove 38.33 and Newman Catholic 28.

“It was a good week for us,” stated head coach Ben Demuth. “We were able to get outside and run, and had some of the best weather we’ve seen in two years. I thought our athletes competed as they needed to. The meets were a good chance for us to really see what it’s like to compete. We are a young team, relying on a lot of freshmen and sophomores, and they all did well throughout the week. I know team scores are not the greatest right now, but our biggest goal is to improve each and every meet and I feel we accomplished that.”
