Eagle softball defeats N-K for only win of week

The Eagle Grove varsity Softball team managed to get another win last Monday, June 18 at Northwood-Kensett 7-6 over the Vikings. The score was 4-2 N-K after the first inning, with the Eagles tying it at 4-4 after their half of the third frame. After taking a 7-4 edge in the top of the sixth, they held off a rally to take the one-run victory.

Several ladies had strong nights swinging the bat. Jozey Gump went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Laine Morgan was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two trips across the plate, while Sadie Stuhr was 2 for 3 with a run driven in and a run scored. Kaitlin Sampson doubled in her only connection at the plate and drove in a run.

Hannah Beecher and Maura Beecher also had a base hit each, and both crossed the dish once. Cali Schultz had an RBI, while Ari Lyman scored twice as a courtesy runner. Morgan had two steals and H. Beecher picked off one bag. Kenzie Crail and Sampson each drew a walk.

H. Beecher earned the win in the circle, allowing just two earned runs on five hits over seven innings. She had seven walks and one strikeout. In game one of a home doubleheader on Thursday, Pocahontas Area/Laurens- Marathon came to town and took home a 19-7 win in six innings. It was 5-1 Indians after two were completed, with each team scoring three more in the third and two more in the fourth. The visitors then exploded to plate nine scores in their half of the fifth to bust it open.
