Eagle Grove in the running for HGTV “Home Town” makeover

We’ve all seen the home makeover shows where talented architects, designers, and contractors go into someone’s home and turn them from something drab into something fab. HGTV is famous for them and they attract millions of viewers. Now they’re ready to step it up a notch and do something that’s never been seen before. Ben and Erin Napier of the popular show “Home Town” have announced they are going to lead a restoration project that will make over an entire town under a population of 40,000. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Sara Middleton at the Eagle Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and friends, Eagle Grove is in the running.

Middleton said she had seen the announcement of “Home Town Takeover” on social media but there wasn’t much time left before the submission deadline. But when community member Colleen Bartlett saw it too, that’s what really got the ball rolling.

“Colleen is so gung ho Eagle Grove...and she said, ‘Let’s do it!’” recalled Middleton.

“Home Town is filmed in Laurel, Mississippi. They regularly show a train and railroad which reminds me of Eagle Grove. Ben and Erin are just everyday people like all of us in Eagle Grove who are just trying to take the rich history that we have and enhance it - not throw it away, but save it and make it better,” said Bartlett. “When I saw the contest about them wanting to come in and help a community, I knew we had to do it!”

Her enthusiasm came from her belief that Eagle Grove really has a chance to win thanks to the hard work of our city administrator, Bryce Davis, securing recent community grants. She also noted the talents of the Middleton and her husband, Troy, to produce a quality video for submission.

With a newfound enthusiasm and less than 10 days to get it put together, Middleton agreed. Bartlett would find people to interview on behalf of businesses, families, and community leaders.
