Eagle Grove boys cross country takes second at Ballard; Lady Eagles team finishes eighth

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura edged out Eagle Grove for the varsity boys class title at Ballard this past Monday night. The Cardinals took first with 48 points, with the Eagles second at 61 and North Polk third out of 12 teams at 91.

“I know the guys were a little disappointed in finishing second, and that has me excited as I know that we can and are more competitive than what the score showed,” said head coach Ben Demuth. “We had a few shoe issues that cost us some time and placings, and that falls on me as the coach so it was a learning experience for all involved. Five of our seven runners put up personal bests (PB) last night on a great course with great weather and against some fine competition. So, from a coaching standpoint I can’t complain one bit about their efforts.”

The Lady Eagles varsity finished 8th out of 10 teams. Jana Willard paced them with a 17:24 for 12th individually. Following her were: Madison Anderson in 25th in 18:25; Sami Simons in 37th in 19:20; Chloe Sunde in 51st in 20:01; Alix Rethman in 54th in 20:04 and Dru Boatner in 66th in 21:46.
