Eagle cross country team takes fourth at Bronco Invite

The Eagle Grove varsity boys cross country team had another strong showing at Belmond-Klemme last Tuesday, as the team placed two runners in the top ten for a fourth place team finish. The meet was won by Clear Lake with just 15 points, followed by: West Fork 75, Forest City 81, Eagles 87, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL 125, Rockford 165, North Butler 176 and Belmond-Klemme 237.

“I’m really pleased with how we’re progressing,” stated head coach Ben Demuth. “They changed this course for this year, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I did know it would be a competitive meet, however both Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Newman were supposed to be there but were not. There was still some good teams to run with. I thought we did exceptionally well on a real fast course, and between both teams 18 of the guys had new personal bests. We do still need to pack up better.”

Jon Koester led the way with a 17:04 for seventh place overall. Spencer Espejo was not far behind him, taking ninth with a 17:15 time. Other finishes were: Derek Graham in 21st at 18:02; Jacob Arbaugh in 28th at 18:21; Jacob Graham in 31st at 18:32; Brady Beck in 47th at 19:29 and Austin Hill in 48th at 19:44.
