Eagle cross country team shines in Webster City

The Eagle Grove boys cross country team came back from last Tuesday’s Lynx Invitational with a bunch of hardware. They looked good in just their second meet of the season, with the varsity taking sixth in the team standings and the JV finishing at the top of their competition. Head coach Ben Demuth couldn’t have been happier with the results.

“I was very pleased with our overall performance at this meet,” said Demuth. “We have a few things to work on before our next meet, at the varsity level, to place higher but I thought some of them had a great night. Our JV runners, in my opinion, were the toast of the meet. We ran against some quality schools in both 3A and 4A. The guys showed the depth of our program by going out and dominating the race with all five scorers in the top 13 finishers. We ran away from the field in winning by almost 50 points.”

The varsity portion was won by Humboldt with 45 points. The Wildcats far outdistanced the second place Wildcats with 82 points on their home course. Fort Dodge had 83, South Hamilton 136, St. Edmond 137 and the Eagles 149 points out of 14 teams.
