Eagle baseball team defeats North Iowa, DSM North

The Eagle Grove varsity baseball team had a good night at the plate last Friday in a 10-9 eight-inning win at Buffalo Center over North Iowa, and as it turned out they needed every run they could get.

Nick Halverson got it started with a single in the first, followed a batter later by Carlos Lobato advancing after being hit by a pitch. Niko Padilla brought Halverson in on a base hit, followed by John Mosley stepping into the box and crushing the ball for a triple to left center to score two more. Colton Poncin brought home Padilla in the third, while Leo Calles smashed a triple to score two runs in the eighth for the game winner.

Halverson swung a big stick in going 4 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored. Padilla was 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Poncin was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Lincoln Miller was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sam Johnson went 2 for 5 with two runs scored, while both Mosley and Calles tripled in two runs each. Brayden Lyman also got a base hit, with Lobato scoring the other run.
