Eagle baseball team beats Northwood-Kensett in wild one 21-19

In a fi nal score that looks more like it belongs to a football game, the Eagle Grove varsity baseball team survived to win a wild 21-19 game at Northwood-Kensett last Monday, June 18. The teams combined for 35 hits, with the Eagles runs produced on 16 of their own.

Nick Halverson was driven in by Niko Padilla in the top half of the fi rst, with the Vikings quickly going to work to plate six scores in their half. It became 9-1 N-K before the purple and gold brought four men across in the third. Spencer Espejo led off with a single and stole his way to second. Nick Halverson would bring him home at the top of the order, with Colton Poncin’s mighty swing driving in him along with Padilla and Saxon Lyman.

After the Vikings plated four scores in that inning to make it 15-12 N-K, the Eagles were far from fi nished in bringing home 15 runs over the fi nal three frames. In the fi fth, Saxon took a walk to start the rally with Poncin doing the same as the next man up. Brayden Lyman then set the table by loading the bags for Espejo, knocked in both Saxon and courtesy runner Blake Morgan (for Poncin). Halverson came up again and drove in both Brayden and Espejo. John Mosley fi nished it by scoring Ryan Smith.
