Eagle baseball season ends in district play after 2-1 home loss

The Eagle Grove varsity baseball team had gotten hot at just the right time of the season, having won eight of their last 10 games going into the opening round of 2A district play last Saturday. That all changed as the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys, who had just lost to the purple and gold two nights earlier, got revenge in ending the Eagle season in a 2-1 win.

The Eagles scored their lone run in the fifth as Dalton Schaffer drove in Carlos Lobato. Ryan Smith got the only other hit off of Cowboy pitcher Jacob O’Connor as he struck out 10 batters. Saxon Lyman was tagged with the loss, going two innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits with none walked. John Mosley pitched five innings, allowing none earned with six K’s.
