Duane Stuckey

Duane Stuckey

Duane Philip Stuckey, the son of Gustav Carl and Kathleen Elizabeth (Murray) Stuckey, was born on December 9, 1937, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Duane attended school in Fort Dodge until his parents moved to Boone, where he graduated from Sacred Heart School.

On January 20, 1962, Duane was united in marriage with Barbara Ann Helphrey at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Madrid, Iowa. They started their family in Boone where his career with Fareway lead them to various cities throughout the state. In 1978, they settled in Eagle Grove where he continued with the grocery and food sales business. Their marriage of nearly 60 years was filled with laughter, love, sadness, challenges, and many memories that will last a lifetime.

Duane will be remembered for being quick-witted and having a sarcastic sense of humor. His hobbies included fishing, yardwork, laying out in the lawn chair, cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones, and traveling to warm places; Mexico being his favorite destination. He enjoyed drinking a cold Budweiser and had quite the sweet tooth. It wasn’t uncommon to find him sneaking around the kitchen in the middle of the night looking for a sugary snack. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and watching all the kids spend quality time around the pool or gathered around the living room while lying in the warmest spot in the sun.

Duane passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove at the age of 84 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; younger brother, Dennis; twin brother, David; infant daughter, Bridget and infant grandson, Clark.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Stuckey of Eagle Grove; four children, Kathy (Dave) Yazel of Windsor Heights, Matthew (Shea) Stuckey of Spirit Lake, Eric (Darci) Stuckey of Spencer and Jamie (Chad) Christian of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Michael, Zach, Morgan, Tabitha, Brooke, Nichole, Nathan, Emily, Jake and Taylor; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 15th, 2022, starting at 1:00 p.m. with lunch being served at the Nine & Dine Restaurant at the Eagle Grove Golf Course.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family and mailed to 200 Broadway Drive Eagle Grove, IA 50533.
