Deb Smith opens “The Country Girl Bakery”

Caramel Latte cupcakes, apple pie, chocolate mini cupcakes, sheet cakes, cake pops...is your sweet tooth tempted? That’s the idea behind Deb Smith’s new business venture - “The Country Girl Bakery.”

Baking up a delicious batch of bubble gum cupcakes for a first grade classroom birthday celebration or making cakes for graduation is nothing new for Smith. She and Angie Bodholdt opened Two Eagles Bakery in February of 2011.

“We started the bakery because we wanted to take treats from home for our kids in school,” Smith recalled. “Living in a rural community, it was a 30-minute drive to any bakery...our children were young at the time and we wanted a profession that we could be home for our kids plus be able to attend school activities.”

Smith said it was a great partnership, but as the business grew and obligations changed, the two agreed it would work out better if Smith opened her own bakery. However, Bodholdt is still eager and willing to help her friend out with some extra baking during the “busy seasons” like graduation and Valentine’s Day. Smith is thankful she will have an extra pair of hands.
