Council will act as drainage trustees

In the rural areas of the county, the Board of Supervisors serves as trustees for the many drainage districts that pass through the county. When it comes to anything within the city limits of Eagle Grove that comes under the City Council acting as drainage trustees on behalf of the residents here.

At a previous meeting, the Council had already approved retaining Beck Engineering for city drainage matters in regards to managing and maintaining both districts and specifically to address a problem with the tile near the football field. Brad Beck appeared at the Monday, September 5 meeting to give a brief presentation. “The city council are trustees to the district drainage within the city,” said Beck. He then went on to explain that for every 40-acre parcel there is a classification placed on it based on benefit, which then determines the assessment that a landowner pays for any improvements.

“I feel the city would be ready to bid the project at the football field by early next year for work to be done by summer,” said Beck. City Administrator George McGuire reminded Council members that Beck is already on a retainer for engineering services. “It’s my intent, unless there’s objections, to give him the go-ahead to start the process for this,” said McGuire. Following some discussion, a motion was made and approved to that effect.
