Council moves forward with Rotary housing area

At their Tuesday, September 3 meeting, the Eagle Grove City Council approved and confirmed final plans, specs, form of contract and estimation of cost for the new residential development area on the southeast side of the city. Called Rotary Addition, the area is located just south of the Wellness Center and Morningside Drive. Plans call for 12 lots with two cul-de-sacs at the end of each street (Douglas Avenue and Cherry Lane).

A stormwater retention area is also included. Following a public hearing with no comments, the Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending City Code to include a hotel/ motel committee. As it is now with some of the current committees, there would be five members with at least one of them being from either the Council, Chamber, CDC or Park & Rec Board.

They will be staggered terms of three years, and members will serve without compensation.

The Council heard a report from Lisa Kist, and reviewed lists of her progress so far on code enforcement and rental inspections. “It’s going well,” said Kist. “They understand why I’m inspecting. The biggest thing I’m finding is in the placement of smoke and CO2 detectors.”
