Council finally closes book on SW Ninth bridge

Even though the project was considered complete months ago, several issues have bogged down final acceptance and release of the retainage for the Southwest Ninth bridge project. The Eagle Grove City Council has now resolved all issues to their satisfaction, and at this past Monday’s meeting crossed over the final hurdles to full project completion.

Approval of change order no. 4 with Peterson Contractors, Inc. to rectify quantities and the application of liquidated damages was the first item. This amount is minus three days of damages due to the contract not being completed in the time allowed per the document. It amounts to $1,000 per day. The notice of acceptability of the work on the $367,895 dollar project was approved. The final item to officially close it out was pay application no. 5 for the release of retainage funds of $8,036.87 which was then approved.

Several more items dealt with the downtown Streetscape project. The grant request from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for $600,000 has been approved. Included within that is Federal funds of just over $23,967 for HUD. A resolution approved the agreement with Simmering-Cory for administrative services, and as another component of the Streetscape project the final application for $100,000 in Water Quality Initiative grant funding was approved. This followed a pre-application being considered, and this is now one of 13 other projects selected for presenting a full proposal. “This is considered the second round in trying for the grant funds,” said City Administrator Bryce Davis.
