Council awards bid for Hewitt Park improvements

The Eagle Grove City Council awarded the bid for the improvement project at Hewitt Park to Jensen Builders of Humboldt. Their total bid of $128,447.96, was much lower than the $236,967.46 bid from Woodruff Construction. The existing court will become a multi-use area for basketball, tennis or even pickleball.

The Council held a public hearing, with no citizen’s present to give comments, on the proposed FY20-21 City budget. They closed the hearing, then approved the budget which shows a decrease from 18.14178 per $1,000 valuation down to $17.25038 for the levy rate. Total revenues will be just over $13.5 million, with total expenditures listed at just over $14.26 million, for an ending fund balance projected at just under $3.4 million.

The Council approved execution of an agreement between the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the City for the $600,000 CDBG grant for the northeast quadrant water/sewer infrastructure project. The work is much needed in that area, and will aid in both potable water distribution and wastewater removal to benefit residents living there. In a separate agenda item, they also approved hiring Simmering-Cory for administrative services related to the project. Under terms of the agreement, they will receive 10 percent as an initial payment, then another $2,000 every three months during the project with the balance upon project completion for a total not to exceed $20,000.
