Council approves first reading of zoning amendment

At their regular meeting this past Monday, the Eagle Grove City Council held a public hearing and then passed the first reading of Ordinance 2017-06 which amends a section regarding entryways, decks and terraces and a section on accessory buildings. The amendment document includes minimum setback requirements from the front property line for entryways or landings, and that a deck or terrace in the front yard shall maintain a minimum of 15 feet. Side or back yard structures must be at least five feet from any property lines.

No accessory buildings are allowed in front yards, and must occupy either just 20 percent of the rear yard or 1,500 square feet (except R-4). It also must not be located within four feet of any backyard line. Appearance and materials used must be similar to the main structure on the property.

A public hearing was held on the revised Comprehensive Plan for the City, which was followed by Resolution 2017-34 to adopt it. The plan is available for citizen’s to view at City Hall. “It’s our long-range vision for such things as land use, businesses, recreation, etc.,” said Mayor Sandra McGrath. “There’s a lot of goals in the plan, and we’re getting there on some of them.”
