Connie Jorgensen

Eagle Grove – Connie Jean Jorgensen, 91, of Eagle Grove died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023 at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove. A memorial service was held at the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church on Friday, Sept. 15. Visitation with the family began at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11, and coffee in the church afterwards. Graveside services were held for family only.

Connie is survived by her children, Jim and wife Judy (Umthun) of North Liberty, IA; Mark and wife Deb (Berg) of Panora, IA; daughter Kim Crum of New Bern, NC; and sister, Mary Hogenson and husband Mark of Cedar Rapids, IA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was fortunate enough to have great relationships with all of her grandchildren, and had met and held all of her great grands. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Jim; two sisters, Cindy Metcalf and her twin, Bonnie Sunner; and son-in-law, Mason Crum.

Connie will be well remembered by generations of students who passed through the doors of Robert Blue Middle School as the tough but caring and kind secretary in the principal’s office, and later in her career, the library. Connie was a lifelong active member of the United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities from Sunday School teacher, choir member, and trustee. She and Jim were two of the founders of the annual turkey supper, an event they were both proud of. Connie was a loyal lifelong citizen of Eagle Grove, and for many years, she and some classmates happily organized the ‘49ers’ to maintain the ties of those who graduated from EGHS in 1949.

Connie will be remembered by her family and friends for her quick wit, wide competitive streak, her hospitality to all, and her unfailing love and support. She loved cards and board games of all types, particularly cribbage. Her famous line was ‘when you win, you win’ – you had to beat her fair and square, she wasn’t going to take it easy on you! She was an avid Hawkeye fan and a strong supporter of the Eagle Grove Golf Course. She and Jim loved to hold large family gatherings and her family has many fond memories of wonderful Sunday dinners, fish fry’s and ball games in the backyard, and countless Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with cousins from across the state.
