Eighteen business and community leaders, business owners, and volunteers gathered on Thursday, Sept. 7 in Clarion to discuss how Wright County can make themselves a community of choice.

Jim Thomson of Iowa Economic Development and the Iowa Downtown Resource Center for the State of Iowa started off the meeting by saying, “People choose where they live and work where they have to.”

He noted how one of the most important factors to making that choice was the vitality of a community’s downtown. It is a symbol of economic health, a partnership between the public and private sector, an indicator of local quality of life, and provides authentic experiences and tourist attractions.

“We teach towns how to save themselves by paying attention to these details,” said Thomson of the state’s services.
