Coming soon to Hewett Park

Last fall, the City of Eagle Grove tore out the old tennis courts at Hewett Park in preparations for something bigger and better.  City Administrator Bryce Davis said that upgrade is ready to begin.

Jensen Builders was awarded the contract and must have it completed by May 31, 2020.

According to Davis, Eagle Grove Parks and Rec Director Zach Whipple has found adjustable nets that will be installed on the new extended 195’x70’ hard-surface court.  That means it can be moved up and down the posts to provide a net for volleyball, Pickleball, badminton and tennis.  As a result, Whipple is also looking at the possibility of forming co-ed programs for the first two mentioned sports. It will be ADA accessible and there will be a new bench placed by the Butterfly Garden for patrons to enjoy watching a game/match.  The court has also been planned for expansion capabilities at a future date.

Two new 50’x30’ basketball courts will also be installed.  They will face north and south instead of east and west and new hoops have been ordered with intentions of being able to host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for Summerfest this year.  The old basketball hoops will be moved to Parkview.
