Coach Herrington shares thoughts on the girls season

Head girls basketball coach Mike Herrington shared his thoughts and comments on the recently completed season. He feels that, going into his first year at the helm, he didn’t know what to expect. “As it turned out, six of our losses were by around 10 points each and so we could have picked up four of those,” said Herrington. “It’s also about how to close out games. Hopefully we’ll continue to change that. As we execute more, learn more and improve fundamentally, those things will change.”

He readily admits he did see improvement defensively. “We got better,” said the head coach. “We’re understanding what it means to play defense, things like stepping into the passing lanes, etc. Hopefully we’ll continue to improve on that end.”

He wishes to mention and congratulate the award winners for the year, highlighted by two Top of Iowa-West all-conference selections. Those spots went to Natalie Vrba (2nd team) and Lea Friedl (honorable mention). Other team awards went to: Offensive MVP-Vrba; Spirit Award-Brittney Osborn (V) and Alaura Lewis (JV); Most Improved-Jozey Gump (V) and Olivia Anderson (JV).
