City finalizing plans for Downtown Revitalization project

Big changes are coming to Eagle Grove.  The downtown business district of the city is about to get the facelift that has been anticipated since last year.

Eagle Grove City Administrator Bryce Davis announced that the City is finalizing their plans to move forward on the Downtown Revitalization Façade Project and a Downtown Revitalization Streetscape Project.  A contract has been awarded for asbestos inspections for the façade project.

“This will not impact any business or pedestrian traffic, but it might look a little odd with individuals taking samples from buildings. Our goal is to inform people of that and to mind the scaffolding or equipment that may be on-site,” said Davis. A Public Hearing for the facade project has been set for Monday, April 6.  After Bid Letting and an Award, they will meet with participating downtown business owners for construction agreements to be signed.

Once those reports are received, they will go out for bid to mitigate any and all materials that contain asbestos. Mitigation is slated to end by May 2020. Construction work will begin after this has been completed, but prior to the Downtown Revitalization Streetscape Project.

With the Downtown Revitalization Streetscape Project, the City is developing a 100 percent plan review.  They are doing an environmental study to make sure everything conforms with State and Federal regulations.  They are also reviewing some underground infrastructure to make sure they can do the entire project at once.

From there, the project will be bid out in June.  There will be 30 days for public comment as well as the time to take care of other procedural requirements.

Davis is happy to say that the City did receive a $100,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship as a piece of the financing.  It can be used for any type of project that focuses on water quality projects, nutrient reduction, green infrastructure, etc.
