Chase Quintus has always wanted to be in public office

Chase Quintus loves his community, and has always wanted to run for office here. He decided to take advantage of a chance at the Ward 3 open Council seat, and now he excitedly prepares for his first meeting in public office.

“I’ve always said I would run for council,” said Quintus. “My background in student government while at EGHS has had a big impact on this reason.” Quintus is 20-years old, having graduated in May 2018. He served as student body president and class president. He is currently employed by the district. After a year as a paraeducator at RBMS, and actually brought back the student council in that building and serves as their advisor. He then transferred to EGHS, where he works with student council advisor Lindsay Haugland. He is also a part-time employee at the Wellness Center.

“I love helping make the schools a better place for students, it’s something I’ve been passionate about for a long time,” said Quintus. “That is one of the reasons why I brought back the student government program at the middle school. I feel as I continue to help make the schools a better place, it is now my time to help out the town I love.” He admits that he sought advice from Mayor Sandy McGrath when deciding to run for office. “She has been a HUGE help, and has been very supportive during the election process,” said Quintus.

He feels that the town has tons of potential. “This is a very family-friendly community,” said Quintus. “I love it here, and hopefully others do as well. Even with the growth of new students, I believe that we haven’t seen the growth (in population) that we expected with the new Prestage plant. I do strongly believe it will happen before we know it, and we need to be prepared and both the town and schools are doing that now. We have all this space downtown that has lots of opportunities, and it’s exciting with all of our new businesses such as Huntley’s Pit Stop, The Farm and El Jalapeno. They are all just the beginning of what we can do in our town. The Streetscape plan will be a huge improvement for our wonderful town, and will attract more people.”
