Character Counts! at Eagle Grove Elementary

Character Counts! has impacted millions of young people across the nation, including more than 10 years of students at Eagle Grove Elementary, and it’s back stronger than ever with this year’s students and teachers.

Character Counts! focuses on six core pillars - Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. These also work hand-in-hand with the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program the school has been teaching for the last several years. Although they are two separate programs, both of them are about teaching students to make positive choices, doing what is expected of them, being a helpful person, and learning to be a good person all the way around.

During National Character Counts! Week, celebrated October 21 - October 27, 2018, the kids were encouraged to wear a different color of the pillar to school every day. On that specific day, they also learned Character Counts! lessons about that retspective pillar. For example, red is for RESPECT, so they learned lessons and heard stories about RESPECT. They were expected to show RESPECT.
